12 Kitchen Space Saving Ideas
1. Utilize the top of your cabinets

This may seem like an obvious hack, but surprisingly, it’s still overlooked sometimes! If you have huge items or supplies that need to stay in the kitchen, simply place them on top of your cabinets.
This means it’ll be out of the way, helping reduce clutter. Plus, you’ll still have easy access for when you do need it. If you’re hesitating on utilizing the top of your cabinet because of the height, it may be worth getting a stool for you to stand on so you can reach it.
2. Under shelf baskets
Having under shelf baskets in your cabinet is great for maximizing vertical space. It makes it so easy to store another row of cups and dishes without stacking them all on top of each other.
You can hook them on the shelves inside your cabinet and also hook them on the bottom shelf, where you can easily access the basket without having to open the cabinet door.
3. Under sink door basket
You may think you don’t have much storage space in your kitchen, but did you know you could use the door of the cabinet underneath your sink as storage?
Install an under sink door basket on this door (generally they’re self-adhesive so won’t require any drilling) and you’ll be able to store items such as kitchen cloths, cleaning supplies, or bin liners.
4. Saucepan lid holder

Another way to use the cabinet door underneath your sink is to install saucepan lid holders! As someone who has plenty of pots and pans, I hate how much space saucepan lids take up due to their handles. Also, it’s such a pain when saucepan lids fall out when opening my cabinets!
Installing saucepan lid holders on the door of your cabinet makes things easy and hassle-free. The best thing about these saucepan lid holders is that they don’t require any drilling. They’re adhesives but hold really well, so you won’t have to worry about them falling off.
5. Individual utensil dividers
Utensil dividers are not only great for maximizing space in your drawers, but they’re also great for keeping your utensils organized.
The type of utensil dividers that are commonly used come as one piece. However, an alternative to help maximize even more space, especially if you have heavy cutlery, is individual utensil dividers. You can fill every space of your drawer with these individual divider containers, allowing you to store more of your utensils!
6. Door spice rack

This is one of those kitchen space-saving hacks that is also great for general kitchen organization! If, like me, you have a lot of spices in your cabinet but it’s hard to fully close the cabinet door due to the space being overflowed, then getting spice racks on your cabinet door is a game changer.
Best of all, no drilling is required for installing these spice racks. If you’re using them for a smaller cabinet, you can get spice racks that are held by adhesive hooks. Or if you want to store your spices in your pantry, where the door is bigger, you can get a multi-tiered rack that hangs over the door!
7. Under cabinet hooks
Under cabinet hooks are great for hanging things such as extra coffee mugs and kitchen towels from your cabinet. To install them, all you need to do is hang them on the bottom shelf of your kitchen cabinet, so that the hooks are hanging on the outside when you close the cabinet door.
Installing it this way will give you easy access to your kitchen essentials without having to open your cabinet door.
8. Shelf risers
An alternative to under shelf hooks is shelf risers! They work in the same way by maximizing vertical space in your cabinet. However, shelf risers are specifically helpful for storing dishes so that you’re not piling them on top of each other, which otherwise is a pain to load and unload.
Additionally, shelf risers are useful for organizing your lower kitchen cabinets into categories, where you can separate your kitchen essentials, such as pots, Tupperware, pasta strainer, etc.
9. Baskets
Baskets are one of those kitchen space saving hacks that can also be applied to anywhere in your home.
Using baskets will save so much space in every room in your home, but for the kitchen, you can save space by storing the things you don’t often use inside. If you’re wondering where the heck you’re supposed to put your basket full of less-used kitchen items, remember the first kitchen space saving hack mentioned in this post: utilize the top of your cabinets!
10. Hooks

The great thing about hooks is that you can place them pretty much anywhere in your kitchen, and they’ll maximize so much space.
For example, if you get magnetic hooks and stick them on the side of your refrigerator, it provides extra space to hang things like oven gloves or measuring cups. Alternatively, if you use sticky self-adhesive hooks behind your cabinet door, you can use them to store your kitchen cloths, small tools, or oven gloves.
You can even add magnetic hooks underneath your cabinets to hang your utensils, pots, and pans, which will free up space in your drawers!
11. Magnetic knife bar

Having a magnetic knife bar will be a game-changer for maximizing space in your kitchen. They have a variety of different lengths, so it’s important that you measure the space you want to install it in.
They are super quick to install, but some require you to drill into your wall, so make sure you have permission if you’re renting. If you can’t drill them into your wall, there are also knife bars that can magnetically attach to your refrigerator!
To use your magnetic knife bar, simply place the metal part of your knife on the bar, and it will stick! It’s so simple yet so effective in freeing up space in your drawers!
12. 2-tier fruit basket

2-tier fruit baskets are great for not only maximizing vertical space in your kitchen, but also doubling the space for storing your fruits.
As someone who eats a lot of fruits, I hate putting half of them in a fruit basket, then the other half in my refrigerator due to a lack of space. More often than not, I completely forget that I have fruit stored in my refrigerator, and I end up buying more fruit without realizing I have plenty at home!
This type of basket isn’t just for fruits either; they’re great for storing vegetables too, such as onions and potatoes!
13. Ceiling rack

A kitchen ceiling rack is a must-have, especially if you have a small kitchen and you want to maximize your space.
If you have permission to drill in your house or apartment, then installing a ceiling rack is one of the best kitchen storage hacks you can use. Not only can it hold your pots and saucepans, but you can also add decorative pieces to it to make your kitchen feel and look more homey.
14. Kitchen towel holder
Having a holder specifically for kitchen paper is perfect if you want to save space on your kitchen counter. Installing them is really easy, as they’re self-adhesive, so all you need to do is stick the holder at the bottom of your kitchen cabinet or on the side of your refrigerator, put your kitchen towel on the rail, and it’s ready to use!
15. Microwave shelving unit
If you have plenty of space above your microwave, then this is one of the best kitchen storage hacks you need to know about. A microwave shelving unit will give you extra space to store plenty of kitchen essentials and decorative items.
There are many types of shelving units to choose from, too! You can have a 2 or 3-tiered unit with or without a rack. Whatever type of shelving unit you choose, you’ll find that the extra space it provides is invaluable, especially if you have a small kitchen!
