How to Throw a Galentine’s Day Party and Have the Best Time With Your Girls

It’s lovey dovey season, and although Valentine’s Day is great to celebrate, Galentine’s Day is also worth celebrating! It’s the perfect day to get you and your girls together for a night of fun activities, good food, and making memories together! 

If it’s your first time hosting a Galentine’s Day party, then this guide will take you through 6 simple steps to make it a success! From themes and invitations to activities and decor, this guide will help you plan the best Galentine’s Day party to enjoy with your girls!

What’s Galentine’s Day?

Galentine’s Day falls on the day before Valentine’s Day, February 13th. Rather than it being a celebration of romantic love like Valentine’s Day, it’s a celebration of platonic friendships with your girls! 

Galentine’s Day originally became a concept from the Parks and Recreation episode, Galentine’s Day. Since it aired, many women around the world have celebrated Galentine’s Day, embracing and admiring their female friendships! 

How to Throw a Galentine’s Day Party in 6 Simple Steps

1. Pick a theme 

The first step to planning a Galentine’s Day party is picking a theme. This will include the color scheme and dress code to follow. 

Since it’s Galentine’s, you can go for the obvious color scheme choice, pinks and reds! We’ll get into the decor in a few steps, but with this color palette, you’ve gotta commit. Have pink and red tones for your balloons, tablescape, dinnerware, food, and snacks. Basically, if there’s anything you can make pink or red, do it! 

The dress code can follow the color scheme, too, if you like. You can go for pink or red PJs (or chic PJs, where you and your girls wear frilly PJs with heels and jewelry), formal or casual clothes. Since you know your girls best, pick the dress code that you think everyone will be fine with following. 

If you want to go for an unusual yet stylish dress code, there’s one that I recently saw on TikTok that I loved called Black and Champagne. This is where everyone wears black attire and brings a bottle of champagne to share! 

2. Choose a date and send invitations

Now that you’ve decided the theme, color scheme, and dress code, it’s time to send out invitations! Put together all of the important information that your girls need to know for the Galentine’s Day party, such as the date (ideally, you’d want it to be on February 13th), time, what to bring, etc. 

Once you’ve put all the information together, you can go ahead and design the invites you’re going to send to your girls. You can do this through e-vite apps like Partiful, which make it easy for you to create your invites, track RSVPs, and manage your guest list. 

Or, you could design your invitations on an app like Canva. This way, you can either print and physically mail the invitations to your friends or download it as a picture (JPG or PNG) and send it to the girls’ group chat. I recommend sending it to the group chat as everyone will receive it at the same time, and it’ll be easier for you all to communicate through that one channel.  

Make sure to have your invitations designed and sent to your girls in advance so everyone has enough time to plan ahead. Ideally, you’d want to send your invites in early January. This way, everyone can RSVP on time, and you won’t be panicking during the rest of the planning process. 

3. Decide on the activities

One of the best things about having a Galentine’s Day party is doing activities together with your girls! They’re fun, creative, and it’s a great time to bond over anything and everything! 

Here are a few ideas for activities you can do:

• Puzzles and pinot – Buy a bunch of jigsaw puzzles to do and a bottle of wine (you can stick to pinot wines like pinot noir or pinot grigio) for you all to drink from while solving the jigsaws! 
• Bloom bar – Flowers are always lovely to have, so for this idea, you and your girls can make your own bouquets! Buy bunches from Costco or Trader Joe’s, arrange them on a table, and everyone can make their own bouquets from the various florals at this bloom bar! 
• Decorating hair accessories – Get a big pack of gems and stickers to decorate clips, brushes, or handheld mirrors! 
• Manifestation love letters – Galentine’s Day falls during the time of year when we’re all still figuring out our goals and aspirations for the new year. So, you could do an activity where you and your girls write down manifestations or letters to yourselves for the year ahead. 
• Sip and paint – Make cocktails or mocktails, or have a bottle of wine while painting on candles, canvases or glassware like wine glasses. Make sure you have enough paintbrushes, acrylic paint, and Mod Podge (to seal the paint on glassware so it doesn’t wash off) 

• Bag/phone charm bar – If you and your girls like decorating your phones and bags, then you can make your own phone and bag charms! Buy a huge bundle full of different glass beads and some elastic string to make your charms! 
• Romance book club – You can either choose a romance book to read together and review it at your Galentine’s Day party, or you can do a presentation night on different books you’ve all been reading, then have a book swap. And since you’ll all have books, you can include a bookmark station where you use scrapbook paper, ribbons, stickers, beads, etc, to create your own bookmarks! 
• Games night – A party isn’t a party if you don’t have any games to play! There are so many different girls’ night games to play, like It’s Girl Time, Catch UP, and Sip or Spill. You can even play heart-shaped Jenga! 
• Charm bracelet bar – I’m a firm believer that friendship bracelets aren’t just for kids! You can find charm bracelet kits on Amazon for you and your girls to handmake! 

4. Shop for decorations

Shopping for decorations is probably the most fun part about throwing a Galentine’s Day party because you can go to town with the amount of red, pink, and heart-shaped decor you can buy! 

You can get red and pink XO balloons, candles, florals, bows, and ribbons, as well as heart-shaped wine glasses, dishes, napkins, and ice cubes! 

One popular Galentine’s Day party decor idea to recreate is a heart wall, where you get a pack of heart-shaped balloons and stick them on the wall using Glue Dots or have them hanging from the ceiling using helium! 

5. Decide on food, snacks, and drinks

Your Galentine’s Day party won’t be complete without food, snacks, and drinks for you and your girls to enjoy! What’s fun about deciding on these is that you can have so much fun making them! 

If you don’t want to get takeout for food, you can make heart-shaped pizzas instead! They’re super easy to make and don’t require many ingredients. You can easily find tutorials on Youtube for how to make them. 

For snacks, you can make a dessert/candy style charcuterie board with marshmallows, cupcakes, lip-shaped candy, etc, and of course, if they’re pink and red, even better! Or you can bake cookies and decorate them with pink and red icing and sprinkles! 

For drinks, you can have a cocktail (or mocktail) station where you and your girls can make as many drinks as you want! Here are a few ideas for cocktails to make: 

• Champagne and cotton candy
• Vodka and pink lemonade 
• Rosé and candy 

6. Set everything up 

Now that you’ve planned your Galentine’s Day party, you’re ready to set everything up for the fun day! 

Make sure that you’ve deep-cleaned your home, from your living room to your bathroom! And if some of your girls are staying over, make your guest room a cozy space and prepare a welcome basket of essentials they might need. 

Also, set up your decorations and tablescapes the night before so that you’re not rushing to prepare everything on the day of the Galentine’s party!
