Before going through the steps on how to deep clean your bathroom, it’s important to gather all the essentials you need to make this deep cleaning task a success! Here’s everything you’ll need:

How to Deep Clean Your Bathroom

Now that you’ve gathered all the essentials for deep cleaning your bathroom, it’s time to finally get to the guide! This guide is recommended to be followed step by step so it’s easy to get through.

There are only 12 steps, however, these all go into detail on exactly how to navigate each one. Here’s your ultimate guide on how to deep clean your bathroom.

1. Gather your cleaning products

Make sure you have all of your cleaning products for a successful deep clean. Most importantly, before you get started on cleaning anything in your bathroom, it’s important to use personal protective equipment, which, in this case, is gloves! For me, I hate deep cleaning with my bare hands because I’m a bit of a germaphobe, but wearing gloves is also important to avoid getting cleaning products like bleach on your hands.

2. Strip your shower/bathtub

Remove everything that you put in your shower/bathtub. This includes your shower curtain and liner, bath mats, your shower caddy, and the personal care products that you keep in the shower or sitting on any surface of your bathroom sink. This will allow you to properly deep clean your bathroom without anything getting in the way.

3. Soak your shower hooks

If you have shower curtains, take the shower hooks off the rail, grab a small tub, and soak them in equal parts vinegar and water to disinfect them.

4. Dust your bathroom from top to bottom

Sometimes, we forget about those parts in the bathroom that are above our eye level. So, to properly deep clean your bathroom, you need to make sure those areas aren’t neglected. Use a duster to reach those high spots in your bathroom.

After you’ve dusted the ceilings and high corners, vacuum the floor. You can also use a damp duster or microfiber cloth to dust the surfaces of your bathroom (e.g., the top of the mirror, lamps, shower fixtures, sink, etc).

5. Clean your shower/bathtub

First rinse the shower/bathtub and walls with water, then use the cleaning paste to scrub it all down with a thin cleaning brush and sponge. Don’t forget to scrub the shower head, tap, and in between the bath tiles too!

Then rinse it off with water to remove the suds. Repeat the same process with your shower/bathtub floor, then dry everything you’ve cleaned with a glass cloth for extra shine.

To descale your shower head, you’re gonna need a plastic bag filled with white vinegar. Take it off the hose and soak it in the bag (use a band or ribbon to keep it in place) for at least an hour. If you can soak it overnight, then even better! Once it’s been soaked, use a sponge to scrub off the buildup, and it’s ready to be used again!

If you have a shower screen instead of a shower curtain…

Then you might have a lot of limescale and grub on your shower screen, which is a hassle to get rid of. But there’s a hack to help you do it with ease! Fill up a spray bottle with dishwashing liquid and equal parts cleaning vinegar and water. Spray the solution all over your shower screen and let it sit for 10 minutes.

Next, use a sponge to scrub the surface. If it scrubs with ease, then you know you’re getting off all the grime and limescale. If it’s not scrubbing with ease, use the solution, let it sit, and then scrub again. To remove all the suds, use a squeegee, then wipe down the screen with a dry microfiber cloth.

6. Clean your personal care products

Use your bathroom sink to rinse all the personal care products that you leave in the shower (including your shower caddy) as well as the products that you leave by the sink (i.e., soap dispenser, etc). This will help to remove any mold, stains and soap scum on the packaging so it’s not gross when using it!

7. Clean the mirrors

Cleaning mirrors can be a hassle when using a microfiber cloth. This is because it leaves streaks or lint after you spray the mirror and wipe it down. But there’s a simple hack to make sure this never happens again!

First, use a glass and window cleaner to spray down your mirrors. Then, instead of using a microfiber cloth, use a glass cloth to avoid streaks and lint getting stuck to your mirrors!

8. Clean the sink

As you already dusted your sink, all you’ll need to do to clean it and make it shine is use the cleaning paste. Scrub the sink, rinse the suds off, and use a microfiber cloth or glass cloth to wipe it all down!

9. Clean the toilet

No one loves cleaning the toilet, but it’s a necessary step to deep clean your bathroom. It requires some serious dedication, but in the end, your toilet will be spotless!

First, start with dusting your toilet from front to back, including the plumbing. I would recommend using disposable blue cloths for this just because the toilet solely deals with waste.

Next, spray the whole toilet with disinfectant, as well as the toilet floor, back wall, and plumbing. Ideally, you’d want to remove your toilet seat for this as there will be a lot of grime stuck underneath where it’s screwed on. Let the disinfectant sit for 5-10 minutes, wipe it all down with a disposable cloth then screw the seat back on.

To tackle the toilet bowl, fill it all with toilet cleaner, making sure to get it under the rim. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes before scrubbing it down with a toilet brush. I love using a silicone toilet brush as it holds less bacteria. Flush and rinse the toilet brush with fresh water and let it dry fully between the seats to avoid mold and bacteria growing on it. Then, store it away.

Lastly, wipe down anything that sits near the toilet (i.e., toilet brush, toilet paper holder, trash can, etc) with disposable disinfectant wipes.

10. Clean the baseboards and floor

The first step in cleaning the baseboards and floor is to sweep and dust them. Sweep the floor, then mix water, peroxide, and dish soap in a bucket and use this solution to dust the baseboards and floor.

Next, get your mop bucket and fill it up with a solution of water, dish soap, and vinegar, then mop! Make sure to dispose of the dirty mop water into the toilet after you’ve finished!

11. Disinfect handles and switches

Simply use a disinfectant and microfiber cloth to wipe down handles and switches!

12. Clean your bathroom dirties in the washer

After cleaning everything, you’ll most likely have a pile of dirty microfiber cloths that need cleaning. Put them all in the washer to make sure they’re clean when you need to deep clean your bathroom next time. If you have a shower curtain/liner and a cloth bath mat, put them in the washer, too!
