50+ Cute and Spooky Halloween Costume Ideas for Women

1. Spongebob SquarePants

Credit

If you’re looking for a goofy Halloween costume idea that everyone will immediately recognize, then dressing up as SpongeBob SquarePants is the perfect option! Become SpongeBob by wearing the iconic shirt and red tie with a yellow cardigan to imitate his yellow spongy nature! You could even wear the white socks with blue and red stripes if you want to commit to the details!

2. Joker

Credit

This Joker Halloween costume is pretty easy to recreate! All you’d need is a green tie, a purple long-sleeve shirt or blazer, and some red lipstick!

3. Ladybug

Credit

Polka dots are a cute pattern, so of course, that makes having a ladybug Halloween costume so fitting! Find some polka dot socks to match a polka dot shirt and wings. Lastly, get an antenna headband, and you’ve got the full ladybug look!

4. Dorothy

Credit

Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz is such a fun Halloween costume idea to go for, especially if you have a dog who can be your Toto for the night! Of course, you’d need a gingham dress with a white patsy blouse underneath, as well as some red shoes.

For accessories, you can include Dorothy’s basket, and if you don’t have a dog for Toto, you can get a dog plushie instead!

5. Cruella de Vil

Credit

For a villainous Halloween costume idea, Cruella de Vil is a perfect character to choose! The red gloves and polka dot coat are so iconic. For this idea, a dalmation patterned skirt is used instead, but if you want to commit to the essence of her character, go for a polka dot coat!

Another iconic feature Cruella de Vil has is her hair, half black, half white. Now, by all means, if you want to dye your hair that way, go for it! But if not, there are plenty of Cruella wigs you can get out there to complete your look!

6. Pearl

Credit

This is quite a niche Halloween costume idea, which you’ll know if you’re a cinephile! Pearl, from the movies X and Pearl, is such an easy Halloween costume to recreate! All you’d need is a red dress and a toy axe!

7. Ghostface

Credit

Ghostface is probably one of the most iconic horror/slasher movie villains of all time, so this Halloween costume idea is timeless! To easily turn into Ghostface, wear all black and a Ghostface mask!

8. Fairy Godmother

Credit

Fairy Godmother from Shrek is one of my favorite characters in the franchise, so I had to include her in this list of Halloween costume ideas for women!

To recreate the look, get a red sequin dress, some fairy wings, and a magic wand, and you’ll look like you should be in the Shrek movies!

9. Britney Spears

Credit

Take it back to the 90s by being Britany Spears in the …Baby One More Time music video! Recreate this iconic schoolgirl look with a black cami, white shirt (tied up in a bow), gray cardigan, black skirt, and knee-high socks. Then, put your hair in pigtails and tie with pink ribbons to complete the look!

10. Cher

Credit

Cher from Clueless has a signature look, which I think is one of the best outfits to ever grace the movie screens – the White tee and a cropped yellow vest with a yellow plaid ensemble (coat and skirt).

Dressing up as Cher for your Halloween costume means you get the pass to say “ugh, as if” to anything that anyone says!

11. Carrie

Credit

Carrie, from Carrie, is the perfect Halloween costume idea if you like horror and gore! This idea is from the scene where Carrie gets covered in pigs blood during prom.

To recreate this costume, get a pink cami dress, a prom queen sash, a bouquet of flowers (either real or fake), and a tiara. The main part of this costume is the pig’s blood, so use red body paint to imitate the blood!

12. Bat

Credit

Bats are animals associated with Halloween, so why not use them as inspiration for your Halloween costume? It’s pretty easy to dress up as a bat; all you’ll need is an all black outfit (in this example, a black corset and skirt are used), wings, and bat ears!

13. Wonder Woman

Credit

Dress up as a superhero this Halloween with a Wonder Woman costume! The easiest way to recreate this is to get gold arm sleeves, a red corset, and a blue skirt. Of course, you’d also need her gold headband to complete the look!

14. Strawberry Shortcake

Credit

Strawberry Shortcake is a cute character that I loved watching as a kid. Although the Strawberry Shortcake I remember had a different look, I think this look from 2009 still captures her vibe!

All you’d need is a strawberry cap, a pink gingham dress, and green and white striped tights!

15. Lana Del Rey

Credit

If you love the album Lust for Life by Lana Del Rey, then I’ve got the perfect Halloween costume idea for you! Recreate Lana’s look on the Lust for Life album cover by wearing a lace dress, letting your hair down, and wearing daisies in it!

16. Bumblebee

Credit

This is a fairly easy and somewhat last-minute Halloween costume idea to go for. All you’ll need to be a bee is a yellow and black striped cami or top and yellow and black striped socks or tights! Then add a bee antenna headband to complete the look!

17. Little Red Riding Hood

Credit

I find it so fun dressing up as characters from the fairy tales we used to grow up reading about! One fairytale character that would make a cool Halloween costume is Little Red Riding Hood! You could wear a red corset with a red cape, holding a basket, and you’re good to go!

18. Ella Enchanted

Credit

Ella Enchanted is such a fun throwback movie that, if you love it, then you’d have a great time recreating Ella’s look for Halloween! Ella’s signature look that you’d need to recreate includes a white milkmaid top, blue maxi skirt, brown belt, and a light blue cape!

19. Starfire

Credit

Starfire from Teen Titans has a cute, bubbly personality that matches her look! To recreate her look for Halloween, get a purple cropped top, mini skirt, and socks. For the accessories, get silver arm sleeves and a silver neck piece!

20. Raven

Credit

Raven was my favorite character from Teen Titans growing up. Her vibe is so mysterious and cool, which is reflected in her outfit! If you want to recreate this cool and mysterious costume, get yourself a dark high-neck blue/black bodysuit, a blue cape, and her iconic red gem chain belt.

21. Coraline

Credit

Coraline is one of the best animated horror films out there, and if you appreciate the film, you’d love this Coraline Halloween costume idea! Get a dark blue wig (or dye your hair blue if you like), and a yellow rain jacket, and you’ve got yourself a Coraline Halloween costume!

22. Princess Tiana

Credit

For the Disney fans who love The Princess and the Frog, this Princess Tiana costume is perfect to recreate for Halloween! All you need is a light green masquerade corset, a yellow patterned skirt, yellow arm sleeves, and a frog plushie!

23. Katara

Credit

If you love Avatar: The Last Airbender, you’ll love dressing up as Katara for Halloween! Find a blue dress and arm sleeves with white fluffy ends, then wear your hair down, and you’ve completed the look!

24. Austin Powers

Credit

As someone who has actually never seen the Austin Powers movies, the character’s look is recognizable anywhere! To recreate his look as a Halloween costume, get a blue velvet dress and wear a white ruffle shirt underneath!

25. Pennywise

Credit

If you’re going for a creepy Halloween costume idea, look no further than Pennywise from It. Where a white ensamle, add red pompoms to mimic buttons, then use red facepace to recreate those spooky red outlines where his mouth opens. Don’t forget the red balloon too!

26. Shego

Credit

I once dressed up as Shego for Halloween, but I think this take on her outfit looks way cooler! All you’d need is a black and green bodysuit and black lipstick!

27. Paddington Bear

Credit

This is probably one of the cutest Halloween costume ideas you’ll ever come across! The Paddington movies are my faves, and recreating Paddington’s look is super easy!

Get a red bucket hat and a blue coat. Then, the most important part of the costume is his label saying “please look after this bear, thank you,” which you can easily DIY, then wear around your neck.

28. Kiki

Credit

Studio Ghibli fans, this Halloween costume idea is for you! Dress up as Kiki from Kiki’s Delivery Service by wearing a long navy blue dress and a big red bow while holding a wooden broomstick!

29. Patrick Star

Credit

One of Patrick Star’s iconic looks from SpongeBob SquarePants is in the SpongeBob SquarePants movie when he’s singing Goofy Goober Rock. Recreate this look for Halloween by wearing a pink shirt (because Patrick is a pink star, obviously), green and purple flower shorts, fishnet tights, and black heeled boots!

30. Elle Woods

Credit

Elle Woods from Legally Blonde dresses up as a bunny rabbit at a casual dress party, which is a perfect Halloween costume to recreate! Get a pink bodysuit, pink tights, and a bunny ear headband, and you’ve got the look!

31. Willy Wonka

Credit

If you’re looking for something whimsical for your Halloween costume, Willy Wonka is the perfect person to dress up as! This idea specifically takes inspiration from Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) and Wonka (2023).

To recreate his look, get a bob wig (if your hair is already a bob, then even better), a top hat, white sunglasses, and a maroon blazer, shirt, dress, or playsuit!

32. The Lorax

Credit

This Halloween costume idea is definitely one that will get everyone laughing! Wear anything orange to imitate the Lorax’s fur, and if you want to wear an orange bob too, go for it!

The main part of the costume is The Lorax’s face, specifically his eyebrows and moustache. Get some orange fur, cut it out into two eyebrows and a moustache, then stick them on your face.

33. Scarlet Witch

Credit

Scarlet Witch (aka Wanda Maximoff) is a badass character from Marvel, and so is her look! Her fiery all-red look is so cool and easy to recreate.

Get a red bodysuit, cape, wig (if your hair isn’t already red), and arm sleeves or long gloves. Then, wear her iconic red headpiece, and you’ve completed the look!

34. Princess Peach

Credit

Every Mario character is cute in their own way, and that includes Princess Peach! Although this Halloween costume doesn’t exactly copy her pink dress look, it still captures the vibe of her character.

All you need is a pink top, a pink skirt, her gold crown, and that’s it! If you want to add more detail, you could always get a Mario mushroom bag as an accessory!

35. Lord Farquaad

Credit

Another great Shrek character to dress up for Halloween is Lord Farquaad! He has quite a signature look: a red dress, red cape, red hat, red gloves, and a black bob (which, if your hair isn’t already a black bob, you can get as a wig)!

36. Violet Beauregarde

Credit

I’m sure you’ve seen various makeup looks of Violet from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory over the years, and for good reason! The best part about her look is when she starts going blue in the face, so it’s fun to do makeup that recreates this moment in the movie!

Once you have the makeup look down, you’ll need a velvet blue co-ord tracksuit set and chewing gum to blow bubbles with.

37. Edna Mode

Credit

One of the best and most iconic characters from The Incredibles has got to be Edna Mode. And best of all, she makes for a very easy Halloween costume idea for women.

Her signature look includes her black bob (which you can get a wig to recreate), black round glasses, black dress, and red neck piece!

38. Tinkerbell

Credit

Tinkerbell from Peter Pan makes for a quick and easy last-minute Halloween costume. All you’ll need is a cute green dress and some fairy wings!

39. Princess Mononoke

Credit

Another cool Studio Ghibli character to be for Halloween is San from Princess Mononoke. Recreate her look by wearing any white top or bandeau with a blue skirt.

Most importantly, her accessories are what will really make this an awesome Halloween costume. Her red face mask, tooth necklace, dagger, and fur cape is what make her look so distinct. Don’t forget to add red war paint on your face to complete the look!

40. No face

Credit

Staying on the Studio Ghibli theme, one easy Halloween costume to recreate is No Face from Spirited Away! Get your hands on a No Face mask, wear all black, and you’re done! If you could find a black cape to wear, then even better!

41. Snow White

Credit

This Halloween costume idea leans more towards a hotter Snow White, with the outfit being a blue corset top and a yellow tutu! Don’t forget to keep an apple as your accessory!

42. The Cat in the Hat

Credit

The Cat in the Hat is another whimsical Dr Seuss character, making him fun to dress up as for Halloween! The most important aspects of his look are his stripy red and white top hat and big red neck bow. For the rest of the costume, wear a white corset, black arm sleeves, and a black skirt to imitate his black and white fur!

43. Jessie

Credit

Toy Story fans, you’ll love this Halloween costume idea! Become Jessie with a red cowboy hat, a white and yellow shirt, and cow print pants!

44. Miles Morales

Credit

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is probably one of my favorite Spider-Man movies. And Miles Morales’ black and red spidey suit is one you can easily recreate by wearing a black and red spidey jumpsuit!

45. Monkey D. Luffy

Credit

One Piece is probably one of the most popular animes right now. So, if you like One Piece and you’re wondering how to recreate Monkey D. Luffy’s look, here’s some inspiration.

The non-negotiable accessory is his iconic straw hat. Luffy’s look is quite different from this Halloween costume idea, but still captures the essence of his character. Find a white dress to wear underneath a red corset and a yellow scarf around the waist!

46. Shrek

Credit

Fairy Godmother and Lord Farquaad were included on this list of Halloween costume ideas for women, but it wouldn’t make sense not to include the titular character, Shrek, on this list, too!

Shrek’s most important features include his ears, which you can buy as a headband. Then, to complete the rest of his look, wear a white dress with a brown tie-up waist corset!

47. Easy A

Credit

There’s a particular scene from Easy A where Olive embarrassed her new reputation by dressing more provocatively and wearing a red letter “A” on her clothes (inspired by the book, The Scarlet Letter).

Recreating this look is very easy and can be done last minute, if you’ve already got black clothes. Throw on a black corset top, black jeans, and black sunglasses. Get some red cloth or paper, cut out the letter A, and stick it to your corset top, and you’ve completed Olive’s look!

48. Chucky

Credit

For a scarier Halloween costume idea, you can’t go wrong with Chucky from Child’s Play. Recreate his creepy demeanour with blue overalls, a colorful stripy top, and a toy knife (or, in this idea, a toy axe) as an accessory. Don’t forget to use makeup to recreate the stitches on his face!

49. Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Credit

Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s is one of her most iconic roles. And her look in the movie is just as iconic. Recreate her elegant look with a black dress, silver tiara, and silver neckpiece. Don’t forget the cigarette holder, too!

50. Freddy Krueger

This creepy character from A Nightmare on Elm Street is the perfect spooky Halloween costume. To transform into Freddy Krueger, get a red and black striped jumper, a black skirt (or black pants), a trilby hat, and his gloves. Then mimic his burned face with SFX makeup or red face paint.
